Cognos Analytics Formatting Reports for Excel
Have you have ever created a report in Cognos that looks great in HTML and PDF, but has major formatting issues when exporting to Excel? If so, join us to learn some clever tips and tricks on how to format your reports for Excel.
IBM Cognos Analytics – Using Data Sets to Improve Performance
Looking for a way to build a snazzy dashboard in Cognos Analytics, but struggling with performance issues? When working against large, centralized data packages, do you get discouraged when dashboards are not responsive due to data latency? We expect near-instantaneous responses to queries and gestures. Why compete with massive queries across millions of rows of history when the scope of your analysis is only a small subset of that data?
Data Sets are a key new feature of IBM Cognos Analytics that make Reports and Dashboards lightning-quick! They let you extract only the relevant data for your analysis, set it aside, and schedule automatic refreshes. Come see how this feature works and learn some important factors to consider when deploying Data Sets.
Tableau Desktop Visualization Tooltips
So you've created the perfect dashboard…congratulations! Once your dashboard consumers have been using it for a while (perhaps days… perhaps minutes…) the next request will undoubtedly be the ability to get to more detail. Sure, you could provide a detailed list of relevant transactions, but imagine if you could provide the ability to hover over a data point of interest and get visual detail? Imagine how useful it would be to allow users to hover over a column, bar, or pie slice to see how that particular data point has trended over the last three years. Join us to learn how to embed visualizations in tooltips with Tableau Desktop!
IBM Cognos Analytics Set Operations – Unions with Relational Data
Have you ever wondered how to get all of the months to show up on a trend chart even if there was no data that month? Have you ever wanted to see all of you locations, products, customers or accounts in a chart legend even if there was no data? Have you ever needed to combine data such as sales and forecast, actual and budget, or Company A data with Company B data, but the data is not joined in the data model? Join us to learn how to use unions to accomplish various complex requirements with IBM Cognos Analytics.
IBM Cognos Report Templatization
A persistent challenge we come across in nearly all of our large Cognos projects is how to manage the proliferation of reports and inconsistencies across them. How can you enforce some level of standardization, and at the same time reduce repetitive and redundant development tasks? Are you using a templatized approach? Do you leverage Layout Component References (LCRs)? We will demonstrate how and why using base reports and LCRs will save you time, deliver more consistent and attractive reports, and minimize maintenance cycles.
Tableau Desktop Parameters – Top and Bottom Filtering
Some of the most valuable performance reports are those that highlight top and bottom performers. The ability to identify the top and bottom customers, products, services or locations, by a variety of metrics such as revenue, cost, units sold, inventory, hours billed, etc. is incredibly beneficial for making decisions about whether to continue or modify business objectives. While the inclination is often to design separate visualizations to address various requirements, a more efficient approach may be to design a single visualization that can accommodate different scenarios. Join us to learn how to use parameters to create highly dynamic top and bottom filtered visualizations in Tableau Desktop.
IBM Cognos Analytics Set Operations – Unions with Dimensional Data
While we typically want to create reports that offer end users maximum filtering flexibility, there are often instances when we want to require certain filter selections. How can we ensure that a value is included even if the user does not choose it in a prompt? Perhaps we give the user a customer prompt but want to ensure that a benchmark customer is always included. Perhaps we give the user a year prompt but want to ensure that the current year is always included. You may want to give users a year prompt but show annual data and quarterly data for those years sorted hierarchically. Join us to learn how to use union functions to accomplish various complex requirements with dimensional data in IBM Cognos Analytics.
