OLAP Modeling with IBM Cognos Transformer is a two-day, instructor-led, online course. In this course students will design and implement a multi-dimensional model, explore advanced features of IBM Cognos Transformer; and build, customize, and deploy PowerCubes.

 

This is a fully interactive course.  Participants will have practice performing the skills in our online classroom.  The instructor is able to see each student's computer screen and offer guidance. A full set of course materials is included and hard copies sent prior to the class. *

  1. The Transformer Development Process

    • Describe the purpose of a Transformer model plan

    • Match business requirements to the model

    • Discuss an approach for creating a Transformer model plan

    • Review the relation of the model plan to the Transformer model

  2. Data Sources in Transformer

    • Identify source data

    • Discuss the types of data used by Transformer

    • Create data source files

    • Connect the data source to the model

    • Define the data source and column properties in the model

    • Preview source data and SQL

    • Maintain and synchronize data sources with the model

  3. Building a Model

    • Create model structures using manual techniques and AutoDesign

    • Modify property sheets for dimensions, levels, and categories

    • Confirm the data source origin

    • Generate categories to populate the Transformer model

    • Modify the model using the dimension diagram

    • Verify the model

    • Create a default PowerCube

  4. The Time Dimension

    • Discuss the purpose of a time dimension

    • Identify the specific properties of a time column

    • Define a regular time dimension

    • Discuss a nonstandard time dimension

  5. Relative Time

    • Compare trends over time

    • Set the current period

    • Create relative time categories

    • Customize relative time categories

  6. Use Multiple Data Sources

    • Discuss the use of multiple data sources

    • Plan the data source

    • Identify and resolve conflicts between data sources

    • Validate a multiple data source model

  7. Working with Measures

    • Discuss the purpose and uses of measures

    • Describe the differences between regular and calculated measures

    • Set measure properties

    • Compare rollup options

    • Create calculations before or after rollups

    • Create a category count

 

Registration Details

  • You do NOT need a PayPal account to pay via credit card.

  • Paying party will receive a payment confirmation directly from PayPal if that was the payment method.

  • For both PayPal and P.O. payments, paying party will receive a separate confirmation email from Senturus, usually within 48 hours. At that time, the paying party can clarify information such as student name and shipping address.

  • For those attending from within the United States, course materials will be shipped to student’s shipping address one week prior to the start of class. International students will receive an electronic copy.

  • Details for attending the class, including course material shipping confirmation and meeting links, will be provided to each student one week prior to class.

 

System Requirements

Remote attendees are recommended to have two displays (monitors) so they can see both the training presentation as well as their hands-on desktop simultaneously.
Audio for attendees will be via VOIP, so a PC Headset is recommended. Audio will also be available via teleconference using a TOLL number.

 

Cancellation Policy

Cancelations made ten or more calendar days prior to the first day of the course, receive a 100% refund. Cancellations made between five and nine calendar days prior to the first day of the course, receive a 50% refund. Registrants will be charged 100% of the enrollment fee if a cancellation request is not received at least five calendar days prior to the first day of the course.

 

*Students attending from outside of the 50 United States will receive electronic copies of the course guide in place of a hard copy. These students are welcome to print one hard copy of this guide for their own personal use during the course, however any other reproduction or distribution of these materials is strictly prohibited.
